Get to know your content marketer: My story
I might be biased, but I think one of the benefits of working with a consultant is that you can develop a genuine relationship. Once I really know my clients as people, it helps me build better strategies and write content that truly matches their voices.
On the other side of that, you get peace of mind knowing exactly who’s communicating with you and doing the work. Unlike bigger agencies that might have an account manager and a handful of people working on your marketing, a content marketing consultant like me really gets to know the ins and outs of your business. You have a direct line of communication, so there are no bloated processes just to share your ideas or feedback.
If you’re considering working with me, I can’t wait to get to know each other! I always set dedicated meetings to discuss my work for your business, and they also serve as shared time to connect. In the meantime, though, here’s a little bit more about me and a peek into my experience and philosophy.
My story
I grew up in Clearwater, Florida, and from a young age, I always knew I wanted to be a writer. Though I genuinely loved school in general, I always enjoyed my English classes the most, and I got to take an especially impactful creative writing class in high school.
As the story goes for most kids entering college, though, I felt like I needed to find a realistic and stable career path, and creative writing just didn’t feel tenable at the time. I also wasn’t very drawn to journalism, so as soon as I entered college at the University of Florida, it was pretty clear that marketing or communications were the best fields for what I wanted to do.
My experience
I ended up studying public relations at UF, and I also got my first marketing job as a public relations coordinator for the university’s IT department. There, I had my first experience creating content and learning how to manage different marketing efforts. I was capturing photos, creating assets, writing for our internal publications, managing social media channels, tracking and reporting, and even scripting and creating videos. It was one of the best environments to gain initial experience.
My team at the University of Florida
After I graduated, I moved to Nashville, Tennessee, which was honestly a choice just to get out of Florida and experience a new environment. There, I started working at a boutique marketing and creative agency, and quickly grew my responsibilities. While I started as a social media coordinator, I ended up taking on more client management, email marketing, SEO strategy, and long-form writing. I realized I enjoyed long-form content in general and carved out a niche as a lead content strategist at the agency. There, I worked with a variety of small- to mid-sized businesses, including nonprofits, professional services agencies, restaurants, consumer goods stores, and ecommerce businesses.
Capturing client product photos in Nashville
Fast-forward a few years, and my husband and I decided to move to San Francisco in 2020 for his job at the time, which is where we’ve been now–and loving it–for six years.
I got to work on the SEO team at Shutterfly (a major e-commerce company), followed by the content team at HoneyBook (a business management SaaS company). In both of these roles, I honed my skills in content and SEO strategy, editorial planning, product marketing, and website management.
A small portion of the team at HoneyBook
After a brief stint on the content team at a Bay Area edtech company, I finally decided it was time to work for myself–something I had toyed with for a while, but never put into action.
Now, as a business owner, it feels like my experience has really come full circle. I offer services similar to the high-level skills I honed at my previous companies, but I also work with a wide variety of clients, similar to those at the agency I worked at in Nashville.
My business
Nowadays, my clients include SaaS, e-commerce businesses, professional services, and more. I especially love working with growing small businesses that are ready to reach the next level of online growth, particularly through their website content.
You can learn more about my services on my home page, but I offer SEO/AIO and content strategy, ongoing content management, and à la carte content and copywriting.
Ideally, I love starting with the strategy first, which is where I can audit your current website, content, and SEO, conduct a competitor analysis, and develop a solid brand and content plan. From there, many of my clients transition to monthly management.
My philosophy
My philosophy, especially in our current era of marketing, is that nearly every business needs a holistic content marketing strategy. It’s not just about blogging or social media anymore; it touches on your brand differentiation, audience affinity, visibility, and most importantly, conversion. Instead of siloed services, I offer the full package from strategy to execution, ensuring every hour I spend working on your business ladders up to your overarching goals.
My time
When I’m not working, I spend a lot of time enjoying my classic San Francisco apartment and all of the parks the city has to offer. I keep my inner child happy by writing creatively on Substack, and I love painting and collaging to exercise my visual creativity. I also love spending time with my husband, Clay, and our two cats, Larry and Lulu. We always head back to Florida at least once a year to visit, but we also love traveling somewhere new each year.
